Running groups

What I love about running is that it is so accessible; if you have some trainers and shorts and t shirt then you can go running. You don’t need to go to a particular place, wait for a session or buy any more equipment. It’s simple, but it can also be very daunting to know how to take that first step towards being a runner.

Why join a running group?

How far should you run? How fast? For how long? How to get started without injuring yourself? Just a few of the questions and worries I hear from runners, but with a little support are very easy to overcome. The focus of my running groups is taking people who aren’t runners and over 10 weeks building up their fitness and strength so they can run for 20 minutes without stopping. The group environment is friendly and supportive with 1 session a week led by me and then ‘homework’ given out to complete 2 more sessions by yourself.

In between sessions I’m always available to answer questions and provide support, plus we have a Facebook group for you to interact with the other people in the group so you can support each other on this journey to being a runner.

Why choose the Running dad?

Firstly the official bit; I’m a trained and qualified as a leader in running fitness, this means I’ve been trained to lead groups and have the necessary license from UK Athletics to do so. Secondly the personal bit; I’m passionate about showing people the joy of being a runner and the significant benefits to your health both physically and mentally of being active. I started running regularly after having significant back issues at the age of 30 as a result of being inactive and sitting at a desk all day. I remember very clearly how hard it was to make a habit of running and to become a runner and this guides the way I lead groups.

As a dad to 3 small children I have lots of patience and love the challenge of finding a way to inspire and motivate others.
