Coaching

Why get a coach?

No matter what your experience or running/triathlon/endurance sports a coach can help you progress in an effective and most importantly sustainable way. They can help you achieve your goals no matter how big or small by understanding you as an athlete and designing a program that suits your needs. There are plenty of free to download plans out there but a coach will ensure that the plan meets your needs and no one elses based on their assessment of your skills and abilities. They’ll also be there with you on the journey for support, advice and motivation.

Why choose me as your coach?

First the qualifications; I have both a leader in running fitness and a coach in running fitness qualification from England Athletics, in addition I am working towards my level 1 Triathlon coach qualification.

Second the experience; I’ve been a running for 8 years and have completed races of all distances from a mile right up to a 100km ultra marathon. But I started running after experiencing back problems through being overweight and sitting at a desk all day. I know what it’s like to start on the long road to being a bonafide runner (whatever that is) and more importantly I know what you can achieve when you put your mind to it and set some big audacious goals. I have 3 young children, the eldest of which was born a year after I started running. Yet despite that in the time since I became a dad I’ve run 12 marathons, 2 ultra marathons and completed a half ironman and last year a full ironman. I understand the challenges of balancing training with life and I know what it takes to take on these challenges.

Thirdly the style; you need a coach who you can work well with, I can’t guarantee that’s me but I can tell you what you can expect from me. My style is organised and structured, you can expect from me a plan that is clearly explained and structured and delivered at regular intervals. I don’t expect you to be a robot and simply follow it, I want to you understand why and what I’m trying to achieve when I set you drills to do. Although I like structure I am also flexible, the plan is adaptable and with your feedback will be tweaked so it works for you. You can also expect me to be contactable when you need and always willing to answer any question you have.
